EPO Activity: EPO: From the Earth to the Solar System (FETTSS) Exhibit

Project Progress

For six weeks in summer 2012 the Bellefonte Art Museum of Centre County hosted the “From Earth to the Solar System” exhibit developed by the NASA Astrobiology Institute.

From Earth to the Solar System (FETTSS) is a collection of 30+ images that showcase the excitement of planetary exploration—our journey to understand the origin and evolution of the Solar System, and our search for life elsewhere. The images are at once artistic and informative, weaving together themes in astrobiology, planetary science, and astronomy. Including contributions from backyard astronomers, large telescopes in space, and even point-and-shoot cameras of field researchers, the collection represents the current state of exploration as seen through the eyes of the scientific community.

Many outreach events were held at the museum including a grand opening, a public lecture, and a special event surrounding the Transit of Venus. For the transit event PSARC set-up solar viewing telescopes and participants received NASA educational materials as well as their own pair of solar viewing glasses. More than 2000 members of the general public came to see the exhibit and participate in the special events.
